This is Brian, our brother. He has been missing for over thirty days. Those who know him realize that this is no bad joke, nor is he simply another careless aventurer lost in the wilderness. Something has happened to him and we want to know what it is.
There are many possibilities as to what could have happened, but we can’t waste time speculating. We want desperately to find our friend, help him if he needs it, and have him among us again, sharing projects, life and joy.
We have made this blog to share Brian’s story and situation, and to make it easier for friends, family, and anyone else to aid us in our efforts to find him. We’ve been tireless in our attempts, but our energy, bodies, and means all have limits. The land where he lives is extensive, with dense vegetation, steep slopes, and very dangerous areas that are difficult to access. Even if we wanted to we couldn’t possibly cover all this ground, and we need, more than anything, more hands and fresh energy. If possible, we would like to be able to pay whoever can provide rescue personnel and equipment. At this point the state has been unable or unwilling to contribute much to guaranteeing Brian’s recovery and safety. Despite visits from the authorities and the filing of a formal report, as of yet no rescue crew has been designated to the search.
Our rescue team is formed by volunteers, friends and neighbors of Brian who are putting body and soul into the search. However, many live far away or have serious economic limitations that prevent them from being able to dedicate themselves completely to the task. Basic supplies like food and fuel are already in short supply, and there is still much work to be done.
We ask with all sincerity that if you are able and willing to help, whether you are near or far, that you contribute what is within your capacity in solidarity with the situation. Although it may seem minimal, it is energy for another day for someone who is seaching for Brian in the woods, or a ticket for another volunteer to travel and join us in Maquiné.
If you know Brian, surely you understand why were are making this effort. He deserves all our help–and more! And those who know him need him among us again, to share, live, learn, and struggle…
We are fighting with all we’ve got to find him!
